The flooring used during building or renovation is very important. Your preference, budget, children and comfort level influence this choice. Timber flooring is an excellent option to consider as it is available in a range of types, finishes and colours to ensure your needs are met. There are different types of timber flooring, including the following:
Hardwood flooring
This is the most durable type of timber flooring available. It is costly, but rest assured that every dime is worth it due to its quality. Hardwood flooring looks and feels real. Sanding is possible, ensuring its finish can be restored. Hardwood floorboards are manufactured from one piece of wood, which gives the possibility of customisation for individual boards. It is suitable for high-traffic areas.
Softwood flooring
As its name implies, this is a soft wood, but its softness does not distract from its warm appeal for a room. Softwood is easy to design in comparison to hardwood, and cheaper too. It has a similar look and feel to that of hardwood but at half the cost. Softwood is typically made from pine, cypress, cedar and spruce. Softwood flooring does not come pre-finished, which gives you the opportunity to choose your finish. Choice of finish on softwood timber includes stains or varnish.
Engineered wood flooring
This type of wood is made by layering wood together at certain angles, resulting in a 14 mm thickness. Engineered wood flooring is a smart choice due to its ability to adapt to moisture. The price of engineered wood flooring varies depending on the type of wood and finish used. It is, therefore, budget friendly due to its price variation. It is also easy to install in comparison to other timber floorings.
Laminate flooring
Laminate wood flooring is made by pressing four layers of timber with heat. They offer stability due to their joining system. Laminate floors are pre-finished, eliminating the need for sanding and coating. Laminate is easy to install and very low maintenance. It is available in a range of hues and colours to match your preferences.
Bamboo flooring
It is lightweight, is durable and can withstand all climate conditions, especially areas with high moisture content. Bamboo flooring is eco-friendly and insulates your home, adding warmth. The main colours for this timber flooring are 'natural' or 'coffee'. Bamboo flooring is easy to maintain and offers a trendy appearance. Bamboo flooring can be refinished when it is scratched, giving it a new appearance.

Howdy! My name is Eric and I am here to tell you all about the joys of completing a restoration project. Until recently, I had no idea of the pleasure which could be had when working on a project to repair an item. I used to throw things away when they were worn out. However, my friend realised what I was doing and invited me to the local restoration club. At the club, we are taught how to repair furniture, jewellery and other items. I really love attending the club and I have learnt a great deal about this fascinating subject.
